When a player is Pirating, they will usually be in a faction that has declared war on the majority of factions in the game. Pirates usually choose agile, quick and powerful ships to Pirate since most players will run when attacked, making Pirating reliant on ambushing and quickly subduing the target.

Pirating Strategies
Baiting
This is the strategy of tricking someone into falling for some kind of trap you have set up in order to pirate their ship, and this is most commonly done with Warp Traps; a type of trap set up to take advantage of someone's vulnerability because they are unable to warp, due to being on cool-down from just having exited warp. While baiting can be done easily at a basic level, it is difficult to do so in a way that it is not obvious to one observing that they are probably being led into a trap. An example of an effective bait strategy that has worked in the past is cross-team ship kill baits: This is where two or more teams(usually faction members split across two or more teams) start destroying a very valuable ship(such as a Super Capital or Limited Carrier/Dreadnought) acting as bait on some team, but don't actually destroy it or weaken it too much(this strategy usually fails if the bait ship is damaged to half of it's hull health before the target falls for the trap as then the ship must be withdrawn).
